Introduction

Nous partons la semaine prochaine pour nos vacances de 2019.
De chez nous à Laval , nous prenons la route jusqu'à Rimouski avec la Toyota Yaris de Suzanne. Une nuit dans un AirBnB de Rimouski et nous montons sur la Bella Desgagnés le 10 juin.

Le Bella Desgagnés desserte les villages qui n'ont pas d'access routière.

Nous aurons une petite cabine et la Yaris sera dans un container... jusqu'à Blanc Sablon, la communauté le plus à l'est de Québec,  ou nous débarquons le 14 juin.

Nous allons passer une nuit à Blanc Sablon et la journée suivante nous prenons le traversier pour Saint-Barbe à Terre-neuve.

Nos destinations à Terre-Neuve sont le parc Gros Morne, l'ile Fogo et St-John's.

Le 27 juin, nous partons de T-N sur le traversier qui nous amène en Nouvelle-Écosse et le retour vers Laval via l'état de Maine.

Next week we leave on our vacation for 2019.
From home, in Laval, we will drive to Rimouski in Suzanne's Toyota Yaris. We will spend a night at an AirBnB in Rimouski then June 10th we board the Bella Desgagnés.

The Bella Desgagnés serves villages that are not accesable by roads.
We will have a little cabin and the Yaris will be in a container. June 14th we will be deposited at Blanc Sablon... the easter-most community in Quebec.

After a night in Blanc Sablon we take a ferry to Saint Barbe in Newfoundland.

Our destinations in Newfoundland are Gros Morne park, Fogo Island and Saint John's.

On June 27th we leave Newfoundland on the ferry for Nova Scotia and the trip home via the state of Maine.

June 25 th Our last day in St. John’s was spent walking around the harbour and adjacent downtown area. We lunched at the resto on the right. View up from the harbour. And we drove south to visit the camping ground at La Manche where we planned to camp on the 26 th . On the way came across this pond at the side of the road. As we drove we saw fog rolling in off the ocean several times. June 26 th The weather did improved enough to spend our last night in NL camping, one reason was to dry out our tent and other equipment which had been sitting in the car soaking wet since that last night at Terra Nova. La Manche campground is near the site of a village of the same name that was relocated after a storm destroyed the infrastructure in the narrow bay where it was located, and which gave it its name. Terra Nova Park

June 20 th We caught the 10am ferry at Stag Harbour, there was a long line-up so we were happy to get aboard. From Farewell where the ferry docks we drove on what was supposed to be a scenic loop along the coast via Musgrave Harbour. It was a bit disappointing because a lot of it was inland and all we saw was more trees on both sides of the road... like the route from Gros Morne to Grand Falls. There were some coastal sections and we saw an iceberg in the distance. We continued down to Terra Nova National Park and set up our tent for a 2 night stay. We were in the Newman Sound campground which is huge but nicely arranged so that most of the sites have some privacy. The season has not really started so there are few campers and the coffee shop-store is not open and none of the normal activities have started. The sites here don’t have fire pits or BBQs. St, John's 2

June 24 th We started the day with a visit to Memorial University then after moving to our new AirBnB we explored north of St. John’s. Flatrock has striking rock formations in its small bay. Cape St. Francis is reached by a very rough gravel road (supposedly onlt for 4x4s but the Yaris made it through like a real trooper) and is the most easterly point of North America, meaning the sun rises there first. There was another small iceberg off-shore. Next was Bauline a tiny village at the end of a very steep descent... but at least the road is paved. Earlier I forgot to talk about the composition of the passengers on the Bella Desgagnes. At the departure from Rimouski and at the first ports on the north shore the passengers were almost all pensioners, there were few exceptions, but during the stops at the villages we picked up some native families and there were suddenly a couple of small boys that were running about and a couple of teena...
