Laval - RImouski

Dimanche le 9 juin, nous avons fait la route de Laval à Rimouski, avec un arrêt à Québec pour visiter le scupteur Ludovic Boney que Suzanne a invité pour une exposition à l'Université de Sherbrooke. Nous avons passé la nuit dans un logis élégant de AirBnB de Maude à Rimouski. Lundi nous avons circulé dans la ville et même roulé jusqu'à Ste-Flavie en attendant notre convocation sur le quai à 18h, près du Bella Desgagnés.

La Yaris a été installée dans un containeur et montée sur le bateau avec plusieurs autres autos, d'autres containeurs et du cargo général.

Nous avons trouvé notre cabine... pas de surprise, c'est comme sur le site du Nordic Relais.
Nous avons commencé d'explorer le bateau et avons assisté à une réunion d'orientation à 19h30 ou on nous a expliqué que après Sept-Iles il n'y aura pas de signale cellulaire ni d'internet.

Sunday June 9th we drove from Laval to Rimouski, with a stop in Québec City to visit the sculptor Ludovic Boney who Suzanne has invited to present an exhibition at the University of Sherbrooke. We slept in Maude’s elegant AirBnB in Rimouski. Monday, while waiting for our appointed time to board the Bella Desgagnés at 6pm, we explored the city and went as far as Ste-Flavie.

The Yaris was installed in a container which was then loaded on board with several other cars, containers and general cargo.

The other photo shows the Yaris installed and attached... the container that is partially hidden in the second row on the right.


We found our cabin... no surprised it is exactly as shown on the Nordic Relais site.
We started to explore the vessel and had an orientation meeting on the ship, safety procedures and onboard procedures. It was explained to us that after Sept-Iles there will likely be no cellular or internet signals.

The Bella set sail at 10pm.

June 25 th Our last day in St. John’s was spent walking around the harbour and adjacent downtown area. We lunched at the resto on the right. View up from the harbour. And we drove south to visit the camping ground at La Manche where we planned to camp on the 26 th . On the way came across this pond at the side of the road. Terra Nova Park

June 20 th We caught the 10am ferry at Stag Harbour, there was a long line-up so we were happy to get aboard. From Farewell where the ferry docks we drove on what was supposed to be a scenic loop along the coast via Musgrave Harbour. It was a bit disappointing because a lot of it was inland and all we saw was more trees on both sides of the road... like the route from Gros Morne to Grand Falls. There were some coastal sections and we saw an iceberg in the distance. We continued down to Terra Nova National Park and set up our tent for a 2 night stay. We were in the Newman Sound campground which is huge but nicely arranged so that most of the sites have some privacy. The season has not really started so there are few campers and the coffee shop-store is not open and none of the normal activities have started. The sites here don’t have fire pits or BBQs. St, John's 2

June 24 th We started the day with a visit to Memorial University then after moving to our new AirBnB we explored north of St. John’s. Flatrock has striking rock formations in its small bay. Cape St. Francis is reached by a very rough gravel road (supposedly onlt for 4x4s but the Yaris made it through like a real trooper) and is the most easterly point of North America, meaning the sun rises there first. There was another small iceberg off-shore. Next was Bauline a tiny village at the end of a very steep descent... but at least the road is paved. Earlier I forgot to talk about the composition of the passengers on the Bella Desgagnes. At the departure from Rimouski and at the first ports on the north shore the passengers were almost all pensioners, there were few exceptions, but during the stops at the villages we picked up some native families and there were suddenly a couple of small boys that were running about and a couple of teena...
